Liberal groups launch ads targeting Susan Collins, Lisa Murkowski: ‘Kavanaugh is a danger to women’
Liberal groups will run ads in Maine and Alaska warning voters about President Trump’s Supreme Court nominee, saying “Brett Kavanaugh is a danger to women,” following the accusation against him of attempted rape more than three decades ago.
The full-page newspaper ads, launched by progressive groups, aim to pressure Sen. Susan Collins of Maine and Sen. Lisa Murkowski of Alaska, both moderate Republicans, to vote against Judge Kavanaugh after Christine Blasey Ford came forward and accused the judge of trying to force himself on her when they were in high school roughly 35 years ago.
It also questions the senators about whether Mr. Trump’s pick for the high court will overturn Roe v. Wade, the landmark 1973 ruling legalizing abortion.
“Dr. Christine Blasey Ford proved Kavanaugh has also been a danger to women in his personal life,” the ad reads.
The ad will begin running Thursday in Maine’s Bangor Daily News and Alaska’s Ketchikan Daily News.
The liberal groups had launched similar ads earlier this month focused strictly on abortion rights, using faux headlines suggesting both Ms. Murkowski and Ms. Collins, two pro-choice GOP senators, could send 50,000 women to jail for seeking abortions if they vote to confirm Judge Kavanaugh.
The liberal groups argue the president’s pick wants to roll back women’s reproductive rights.
