Joe Biden picks Philadelphia for campaign headquarters location

May 16, 2019

Former Vice President Joseph R. Biden Jr. has picked Philadelphia for his national campaign headquarters, his campaign announced Thursday.

“We’re proud to anchor our campaign in the birthplace of American democracy,” said Greg Schultz, Mr. Biden’s campaign manager.

Philadelphia’s “storied history and celebrated diversity will serve as an inspiration for Team Biden, and is the ideal setting to continue our fight for the soul of this nation,” he said.

Mr. Biden was born in Scranton, and he is scheduled to hold a campaign kickoff in Philadelphia on Saturday.

Democrats held their national convention in Philadelphia in 2016, and Pennsylvania will again be a critical state in the 2020 election.

A Quinnipiac University poll released Wednesday showed Mr. Biden holds a double-digit lead over President Trump in Pennsylvania in a hypothetical match-up.

In 2016, Mr. Trump became the first Republican presidential candidate since 1988 to carry the state en route to his victory.
