IRVINE, Calif. (AP) _ A judge already facing a federal charge of possessing child pornography was charged Thursday in a decades-old child molestation case.

Superior Court Judge Ronald Kline, 61, was booked for investigation of four counts of lewd conduct with a child under the age of 14, police said. He surrendered to police and was later released on $100,000 bail.

Kline's attorney, Paul S. Meyer, denied the charges.

``The historical charges filed against Judge Kline are from 26 years ago and involve one complaining person,'' Meyer said. ``We will enter a plea of not guilty.''

A man claims that as a 12-year-old, he was molested by Kline between 1976 and 1978, police Lt. Sam Allevato said. The man and Kline lived in the same neighborhood at the time.

A 1999 California law removes the statue of limitations on some crimes against children, including molestation.

Kline, who is seeking re-election in March, was appointed to the Orange County bench in 1995. He presided over civil cases until last year when he was placed under house arrest pending the outcome of the federal charges. He was arrested in November and has pleaded innocent.
