Rodriguez’s 8 RBI leads Herd past Blue Raiders 13-3
HUNTINGTON — Marshall University center fielder Erik Rodriguez had four hits and drove in eight runs Friday in a 13-3 baseball victory against Middle Tennessee at the Huntington YMCA Kennedy Center.
Left-handed pitcher Joshua Shapiro allowed only four hits and three runs in the first seven innings to notch his fourth win this season (4-0).
Rodriguez went 4-for-5 at the plate with a two-RBI single in the third inning, a two-run double in the fourth inning, a bases-loaded triple in the fifth inning and a run-scoring single in the seventh inning.
“My swing has felt great,” Rodriguez said in a HerdZone.com release. “I try to make adjustments at the plate every at-bat and do what I can to help the team.”
Marshall catcher Rey Pastrana had a two-run triple in the third inning and a solo home run in the fifth inning. Second baseman Geordon Blanton added a run-scoring triple in the seventh inning.
The Thundering Herd (16-9, 5-2 Conference USA) rapped 19 hits with Pastrana and right fielder Luke Edwards both delivering three.
Marshall and Middle Tennessee (8-17, 3-4) continue the series at 2 p.m. Saturday.
