Police are holding a 30-year-old Santa Fe man accused of trying to flee officers in a stolen SUV and illegal drug possession, according to a criminal complaint filed Monday in Santa Fe County Magistrate Court.

Police reported that after officers encountered Anthony Guarriello in a stolen 2000 Dodge Durango in the parking lot of the Albertsons supermarket on South St. Francis Drive around 8 a.m. Sunday, he tried to flee.

After police were able to stop Guarriello along Botulph Road, he tried to resist arrest, the complaint says, and a plastic container that fell from his pocket was found to contain suspected heroin, methamphetamine and marijuana.

The complaint says he was booked on suspicion of possession of a controlled substance and receiving or transferring a stolen motor vehicle.

He remained in jail Monday in lieu of bond.
