Company Announces Full-Color Fax Machine

January 31, 1989

CAMPBELL, Calif. (AP) _ StarSignal Inc. has introduced what it said is the first facsimile machine capable of sending full-color pictures over conventional telephone lines.

The company said Monday that the device, with a $19,000 price tag, will be aimed at the growing desktop publishing market and other uses that require fast transmission of color images. The transmitted image could be printed out or electronically stored on the other end.

The new ″Colorfax″ system, which includes a color scanner, color printer, data compression device and high-speed modem, can scan any color document and reproduce it in 256,000 color combinations, said StarSignal President Robert Widergren.

After several weeks of testing the device, the company will start shipping the unit in quantity in March, Widgren said.
