SUV crash into store critically injures teen; others hurt
PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Police say a sport utility vehicle hit a teenage pedestrian and plowed into a south Philadelphia clothing store, critically injuring the teen and sending three other people to hospitals.
Police say the 71-year-old driver was trying to park in front of the Rainbow Shop just after 1:30 p.m. Monday when she hit the accelerator instead of the brake.
Police said she hit a 16-year-old youth on the sidewalk and dragged him as the SUV plunged 25 feet through the glass window and into the store.
The youth was taken to Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia in critical condition. Two girls age 14 and 15 were also taken there after reporting foot and knee pain. A 57-year-old woman was taken to Methodist Hospital with back and neck injuries. The driver was uninjured.
