Grambling St. 54, Texas Southern 15
GRAMBLING, La. (AP) _ Kendrick Nord completed 12 of 22 passes for 231 yards and four touchdowns, three to running back Broderick Fobbs, to boost Grambling State to a 54-15 victory over Texas Southern in a Southwestern Athletic Conference game Saturday.
The victory ended a two-game losing streak for Grambling (4-4 overall, 4-1 in SWAC). The Tigers had not won since head coach Eddie Robinson captured his 400th career victory on Oct. 7.
Texas Southern (2-6, 1-4) lost its sixth straight game.
Nord, who has been struggling throughout the season, had his first 200-yard passing performance of the year. He connected with Fobbs on scoring passes of 4, 20 and 59 yards and also hurled a 30-yard touchdown strike to Solomon Thompson.
Fobbs ended with four receptions for 103 yards and also rushed for 65 yards on nine carries.
Grambling’s offense, which ranked next to last in passing efficiency among SWAC teams, accounted for 290 yards passing and another 231 on the ground.
Grambling fullback Jason Bratton led all rushers with 110 yards on 12 carries.
Grambling had six different players score, including defensive end Brandon Walters, who intercepted a pass from TSU backup Jarrett Harper and returned it 34 yards for a touchdown with 5:40 left in the game.
Keith James had a 3-yard run and Jay Johnson a 10-yard run to account for Grambling’s the remaining two of Grambling’s eight touchdowns.
Harper passed 14 yards to wide receiver Damien Neveaux and running back Leonard LeBlanc ran 2 yards for Texas Southern’s touchdowns.
