Steelers notebook: Chris Boswell injures foot at practice
Pittsburgh Steelers kicker Chris Boswell left practice early Wednesday when he injured his left (plant) foot. Punter Jordan Berry said Boswell was “scraped” by a cleat. Because Boswell didn’t miss any kicking drills, he was listed as a full participant on the practice report.
Boswell had just started finding his groove after a slow start to the season, making two field goals against the Baltimore Ravens. He went 1 for 4 and missed two extra points through the Steelers’ first three games.
**Hilton to wear brace**
Slot cornerback Mike Hilton wore a brace on his injured elbow during practice Wednesday, and he will wear it in the game Sunday against the Atlanta Falcons.
Hilton said the brace is for extra protection because of the hyper-extension he received in Week 3 against Tampa Bay.
“It stops certain movements,” Hilton said. “I’m able to still move it up and down, catch the ball, tip the ball. Everything is solid.”
Hilton isn’t sure whether he’ll need to wear the brace beyond the game Sunday against Atlanta, which features a trio of top receivers in Julio Jones, Mohamed Sanu and rookie Calvin Ridley.
“It’s not going to hold me back,” Hilton said. “I’m still going to be myself, I’m going to be physical, aggressive. I’m going to use my hands like I want to.”
**Burnett limited, Heyward-Bey out**
After missing each of the past two games because of a lingering groin injury, safety Morgan Burnett was a limited practice participant Wednesday. Burnett has practiced early during each of the past two weeks but by Friday has sat out and then did not play against either Tampa Bay or Baltimore.
The veteran safety was the Steelers’ highest-profile offseason free-agent signing, but he has missed more time than not since suffering a groin injury early in training camp. Rookie Terrell Edmunds has played in his place.
Other than veterans who were given the day off by coach Mike Tomlin, the only other players to appear on the Wednesday injury report were linebacker Vince Williams (hamstring) and receiver Darrius Heyward-Bey (ankle), each of whom were injured during Sunday night’s loss to Baltimore.
