AUBURN, Maine (AP) — Officials say a body found in the Androscoggin River is believed to be that of an Auburn man who had been missing for a month.

Police say 46-year-old Dan Doherty went missing the night of April 4, leaving his car, jacket and personal items near a bridge crossing the river.

Auburn Deputy Police Chief Jason Moen tells the Sun Journal of Lewiston (http://bit.ly/16HiESda ) the body has been taken to the Maine Medical Examiner's Office for positive identification. The cause of death has not been determined.

A friend told the newspaper that Doherty was distraught when he called her the night he disappeared.
