Alleged baseball bat attack during argument lands Havasu man in jail
A Lake Havasu City man is in jail after police said he beat another person with a baseball bat.
George Patrick Edwards, 56, was arrested Monday evening and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and on a misdemeanor charge of failing to appear for a court hearing for a prior illegal camping citation.
Police said Edwards and the victim were in a verbal argument at a residence in the 1500 block of Sea Swallow Drive before Edwards got an aluminum baseball bat and struck the person several times in the arm.
When police spoke to the victim and to the assailant, they learned the assault was a result of Edwards believing the man was making advances on his girlfriend.
But the victim said he didn’t know Edwards’ girlfriend until that day. Edwards told police that the victim was a drug addict who lived next door.
The victim suffered injuries to his arm, swelling and bruising, but no broken bones. One of the wounds on his arm broke the skin and drew blood.
