GCU baseball falls in extras as Sac State forces a winner-take-all game
With a chance to clinch its first-ever berth into the NCAA Tournament, the Grand Canyon baseball team fell 4-3 in 11 innings to Sacramento State on Saturday night in the Western Athletic Conference Tournament.
Sac State’s win sets up a winner-take-all scenario today at noon at Hohokam Stadium in Mesa.
The game was knotted up at 3 in the fifth and remained tied until the bottom of the 11th until Dylan McPhillips laced an RBI double down the left-field line to give the Hornets the win.
GCU led first, going up 2-0 in the top of the third on a pair of run-scoring singles by Austin Bull and Jonny Weaver.
Tyler Wyatt delivered an RBI single of his own in the fifth.
