South African Swim Coach Stopped

PERTH, Australia (AP) _ A South African Olympic swimming coach was stopped by Australian Customs officials while carrying a quantity of banned substances into Perth Airport.

The coach, whose name has not been released, was carrying 500 tablets of a banned Chinese herb containing ephedrine, Australian Broadcasting Corp. radio reported Friday.

The tablets were confiscated Wednesday and the coach was allowed to continue with the team to Sydney to prepare for the Sept. 15-Oct. 1 Olympics.
