MONTREAL (AP) _ Free-agent pitcher Masato Yoshii signed a one-year contract with the Montreal Expos on Friday.
Yoshii, 36, who had bone spurs surgically removed from his right elbow last Sept. 28, was released by Colorado on March 28.
The right-hander from Japan went 6-15 with a 5.86 ERA in 29 starts for the Rockies last season.
Yoshii, who spent his first 13 professional seasons in Japan, made his major league debut with the New York Mets in 1998.
He has a 24-31 career mark with a 4.72 ERA in 89 games, including 87 starts.
Yoshii was in uniform prior to Friday night’s game against Florida and available out of the bullpen.
Montreal optioned infielder Andy Tracy to Triple-A Ottawa. The Expos also moved injured right-hander Carl Pavano from the 15-day to the 60-day disabled list.
