Coroner: Man Pulled From Lake Scranton Had “sudden Cardiac Death”

SCRANTON — An Allentown man who died after being pulled from a truck submerged in Lake Scranton suffered “sudden cardiac death,” Lackawanna County Coroner Timothy Rowland said today.

Rescuers pulled Richard Sharkey, 59, from the submerged truck Tuesday and he later died in Geisinger Community Medical Center’s emergency department. Sudden cardiac death is a sudden, unexpected death caused by loss of heart function. Sharkey had a “significant” medical history, Rowland said.
