COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) _ The U.S. men’s national team will play Ecuador in an exhibition soccer game on June 7 at Crew Stadium.
The game, a tuneup in the midst of the Americans’ qualifying tournament for the 2002 World Cup, will be televised live by ESPN.
It will be the final preparatory game for the Americans before they play back-to-back final round World Cup qualifying matches in mid-June. In those games, the U.S. team travels to Jamaica on June 16 and faces Trinidad & Tobago at Foxboro Stadium four days later.
In seven meetings against Ecuador, the United States is 0-4-3. They last met in 1997, with Ecuador winning 1-0 in Baltimore.
Ecuador has been one of the surprises in South America’s World Cup qualifying, where it currently stands in fourth-place with 19 points (6-4-1). In March, Ecuador beat Brazil for the first time, 1-0.
