May 2, 2019

JENKINS TWP. — The two candidates in the 12th Congressional District special election will debate at 8 tonight at WVIA-TV, 100 WVIA Way, Jenkins Twp. State Rep. Fred Keller, R-85, Snyder County, and Democratic college professor Marc Friedenberg seek the seat held by former Rep. Tom Marino, who resigned Jan. 23 for health reasons. The winner will serve until January 2021. House members earn $174,000 a year. Keller, 53, of Middlecreek Twp., is serving his fifth term in the state House. An assistant professor at Penn State University’s main campus, Friedenberg, 35, of Ferguson Twp., Centre County, teaches cybersecurity and cyberlaw courses. Marino beat him by an almost 2 to 1 margin to win re-election last November. The 12th District consists of all of Wyoming, Susquehanna and Bradford counties and all or parts of 12 other counties stretching to Williamsport and State College in central Pennsylvania. Tonight’s hour-long debate will air live on WVIA-TV and steam live at wvia.org.
