State trooper fatally shoots man facing arrest warrant
LEBANON, Pa. (AP) — A state trooper who was trying to serve an arrest warrant has shot and killed a man in Pennsylvania.
Authorities say troopers from the Jonestown barracks went to serve the warrant to 27-year-old Mitchell Hammer in Palmyra Tuesday morning, but he ran off into the woods.
A foot chase ensued, and police say it ended after a confrontation between Hammer and a trooper who opened fire and struck the man.
Hammer was flown by helicopter to a hospital where he died of his injuries. No troopers were injured.
Police have not said whether Hammer was armed. The trooper involved in the shooting has been placed on paid administrative leave.
Police say Hammer was wanted on assault charges.
