HALLANDALE, Fla. (AP) _ Dominique's Joy edged Circus Charmer by a neck to win the $75,000 Joe Namath Handicap for fillies and mares on grass at Gulfstream Park on Wednesday.

Pico Teneriffe was third and Khumba Mela, the 8-5 favorite, was fourth.

The winner ran 1 1-16 miles in 1:39 4-5 with Jerry Bailey up. She paid $11.40, $7 and $3.60. Circus Charmer paid $7.80 and $4 and Pico Teneriffe paid $2.80 to show.

Dominque's Joy increased her earnings to $185,231 with her first stakes victory. She has won five of 14 starts, with four seconds.

Champagne Royal, a 25-1 shot, set the pace down the backstretch and led Tres Coronas by one length going to the far turn. Dominque's Joy was third, three lengths farther back. Khumba Mela was fourth and Circus Charmer fifth on the inside, eight lengths off the lead. Pico Teneriffe was next.

Champagne Royal continued to lead into the stretch, and to the eighth pole. Circus Charmer drove to the front nearing the sixteenth pole, but Dominque's Joy, on the outside, caught her in the last three strides.

Pico Teneriffe closed fast to be third, 2 3/4 lengths behind Circus Charmer and 1 1/2 lengths in front of Khumba Mela.
