38-year-old charged with murder in Selma shooting

A man has been charged with murder in connection with a Wednesday evening shooting in Johnston County.

Selma police said officers arrived at a home at 410 W. Preston St. just before 5 p.m. and found Shantwan D. Strickland, 31, inside the house with a gunshot wound.

Officers performed CPR on Strickland, but he was later pronounced dead at the scene.

Jamie R. Dupree, 38, of Selma was charged with first-degree murder, possession of a firearm by a felon and felony breaking and entering.

Dupree was being held without bond at the Johnston County jail.

Police said the State Bureau of Investigation is assisting in the investigation of the shooting.
