Van der Garde joins Sauber as test driver
ZURICH (AP) — Sauber has announced Giedo van der Garde has joined the Formula One team as a test and reserve driver.
The 28-year-old will drive during some Friday practice sessions and “several tests” this year.
On Tuesday, Van der Garde says “I consider this an important step in my career ... I want to show the team and everybody else what I am capable of and that I deserve a race seat with the Sauber F1 Team in 2015.”
The Dutchman made his debut in F1 with Caterham last season, achieving a top finish of 14th in the Hungarian Grand Prix.
Team principal Monisha Kaltenborn says “Giedo has the right attitude to take the next step forward.”
