Fairland’s Shrout shoots 75 for medalist honors in OVC girls golf
GALLIPOLIS, Ohio — Hanna Shrout from Fairland High School shot 3-over-par 75 Friday to win medalist honors at the first Ohio Valley Conference high school girls golf championship at Cliffside Golf Course.
Shrout shot 39-36—75 to win the individual title at the 6,557-yard course. Shrout finished 10 shots ahead of runner-up Katy Pertuset of Portsmouth. Pertuset shot 41-44—85.
Hunter Copley of Gallia Academy and Emilee Carey of South Point each shot 91 to tie for third. Bailey Meadows of Gallia Academy shot 93 to place fifth, and teammate Molly Fitzwater shot 94 to finish sixth and round out the all-tournament team.
“It was a great day for the girls,” Fairland Athletic Director Jeff Gorby said. “The first girls golf championship is a huge move for our league. We had some great female golfers today.”
Seven teams participated, but not enough fielded full squads to award a team title.
Gorby said he was proud of Shrout, who played in the state tournament last season.
“She has brought exposure to our league,” Gorby said. “She started off slow today, then got her game in line.”
