Swiss Shooter Burge Snares Record

LAHTI, Finland (AP) _ Switzerland’s Marcel Burge matched the individual world record with 589 points in the 300-meter standard rifle event Tuesday at the World Championships.
Burge equaled the mark set by Norway’s Trend Joel in 1995.
In the last event of the championships, Germany’s Marco Spangenberg beat teammate and 1996 Olympic champion Ralf Schumann in a shoot-off in the 25-meter rapid fire pistol.
Russia emerged as the top nation with 51 medals _ 21 gold, 16 silver and 14 bronze medals, including also the junior events.
The United States placed fifth with six gold medals, 11 silvers and 10 bronze.
The United States took four silver medals and three bronze in team events, men or women.
