Argentine player hit in the face by fan angry after loss
BUENOS AIRES, Argentina (AP) — An Argentine player had to be treated for a cut near his eyebrow after being hit by an upset fan following his team’s loss.
Lanus midfielder Matias Fritzler was struck near the team’s changing rooms after the 1-0 home loss to Argentinos Juniors in the eighth round of the Argentine league on Sunday. It was Lanus’ second consecutive defeat.
The 28-year-old Fritzler told Argentine media he was attacked just after talking to journalists outside the changing rooms. Television images showed that Fritzler, bleeding from the cut near his left eye, tried to go after the fan but was contained by onlookers.
Fritzler had been replaced because of an injury in the second half.
Lanus president Alejandro Maron said the fan was a club member and was immediately expelled.
