Red Cross seeking nominations for community heroes

Chicago – The American Red Cross of Chicago and Northern Illinois is accepting nominations in 11 different categories for its 17th annual Heroes Breakfast set for spring 2019.

The honors celebrate local community members who “have demonstrated heroism through extraordinary acts of courage or kindness,” according to a news release from the American Red Cross.

The 11 categories include: blood services, community impact, disaster services, emergency medical assistance, firefighters, global citizenship, good Samaritans, law enforcement, military personnel, nurses, and youth.

The Red Cross stipulates that heroic acts by nominees must have taken place during the 2018 calendar year or be ongoing. Candidates must also work or live in the following counties: Boone, Bureau, Carroll, Cook, DeKalb, DuPage, Grundy, Kane, Kankakee, Kendall, Jo Daviess, LaSalle, Lake, Lee, McHenry, Ogle, Putnam, Stephenson, Whiteside, Will, and Winnebago.

For those interested in sending in an application, forms can be found on the Red Cross website, and are due Nov. 30.

The Heroes Breakfast is scheduled to take place at the Hilton Chicago, 720 South Michigan Ave.
