TAMPA, Fla. (AP) _ The Washington Capitals called up goalie Sebastien Charpentier and center Glen Metropolit from Portland of the AHL on Saturday.
The moves came one day after Capitals starting goalie Olaf Kolzig hurt his left knee in Friday’s 3-3 tie at Nashville.
Kolzig will be re-evaluated when the team returns to Washington. Although listed as day-to-day, Kolzig could miss the Capitals’ final game before the Olympic break, Monday against Tampa Bay.
Washington also placed right wing Stephen Peat on injured reserve with a groind injury. Peat has missed three games with the injury.
Charpentier, 24, served as the backup to Craig Billington in Saturday’s game at Tampa Bay. He is 12-11-8 with a 2.59 goals-against-average for Portland.
Metropolit has 17 goals and 21 assists in 31 minor league games. He had five assists in 11 games earlier this season with the Capitals.
