Undated (AP) _ Roger Laurin’s Rare Lead took the lead entering the stretch and withstood a strong challenge from S’Amouracher for a three-quarter-length victory Thursday in the $33,000 Smart Deb Purse for fillies and mares at Aqueduct.
Ridden by David Nuesch, the winning 3-year-old daughter of Mr. Leader paid $5.20, $2.40 and $2.10 after covering the 1 3/8 -mile turf course in 2:21 1-5 under 110 pounds.
S’Amouracher, carrying 117 pounds, including Angel Cordero Jr., finished 3 1/2 lengths ahead of early leader Veridian and, with entrymate Jacky Max, returned $2.20 and $2.10.
Veridian, coupled in the wagering with Beat It Kid, paid $2.40 to show.
Slightly favored I’ll Raise You One took an early lead and went on to win the $22,740 Up The Creek allowance by four lengths at Churchill Downs.
I’ll Raise You One ran the mile in 1:36 3-5 seconds under Jim McKnight and returned $5.80, $3 and $2.20. Second favorite Fuzzy, with Pat Day aboard, paid $3 and $2.20, while Derby Wish was 2 1/2 lengths back and returned $2.60 to show.
Longshot Windy Triple K. led all the way in winning the $48,650 Taisez Vouz Stakes by 1 1/4 lengths over Irish Lord’s Miss before a crowd of 15,062 at Santa Anita’s Oak Tree meeting.
Windy Triple K., ridden by Patrick Valenzuela and carrying 115 pounds, covered seven furlongs on a sloppy track in 1:24 and paid $17.80, $8.20 and $2.60. The victory was worth $27,050.
Irish Lord’s Miss, ridden by Eddie Delahoussaye and carrying 116 pounds, crossed the finish line 1 3/4 lengths ahead of Prankstress and returned $4.20 and $2.20 to show.
Eta Carinae gradually wore down Gold Lake through the stretch for a head victory in the $22,000 Diva Purse at Laurel Race Course.
The even-money favorite in a field of six fillies and mares sprinted six furlongs over the turf in 1:11 2-5 with veteran jockey Leroy Moyers to pay $4, $2.60 and $2.60.
Gold Lake, ridden by Buck Thornburg, paid $2.80 and $2.60. Lady Amalthia, a longshot, finished third and returned $3.60 to show.
