DEATH PENALTY

WASHINGTON _ Three states resumed executions of death row inmates in 2018 after long breaks, but nationwide, executions remained near historic lows this year. That’s according to an annual report on the death penalty released Friday. By Jessica Gresko. SENT: 680 words, photo.

_ DEATH PENALTY-OHIO: Federal appeals judges have declined to hear Ohio’s challenge to a ruling throwing out a man’s conviction and death sentence.

_ ONLINE SCHOOLS-OHIO FUNDING: As lawmakers consider changing how Ohio funds online charter schools, the state auditor recommends they consider models factoring in student performance or testing.

_ MEDICAL MARIJUANA-LEGAL FEES: State regulators are seeking $2.1 million in additional money to cover legal costs tied to medical marijuana lawsuits against Ohio’s Department of Commerce.

_ POLICE-FATAL SHOOTING: Police have charged a 16-year-old girl with murder in connection to a police shooting that killed another 16-year-old boy.
