HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (AP) — A man is accused of killing a woman who was dismembered and tossed into a river.

News outlets report 73-year-old Argie Lee Jeffers Sr. was charged with murder and concealment of a deceased human body Wednesday.

Huntington police found pieces of Carrie "CJ Wood" Sowards' body in a river near the Guyandotte Boat Ramp last September. A criminal complaint says investigators found evidence of a major "bloodletting incident" at Jeffers' home, along with body samples believed to match Soward's DNA. Jeffers told police they were in a volatile relationship.

Tuesday, a relative of Jeffers told police he'd been asked to dispose of buckets of apparent human body parts that police say are consistent with those missing from her body.

At his arraignment, Jeffers denied allegations, saying he's been set up.
