GREENWOOD, Miss. (AP) — Congregants at a Mississippi church could vote on whether to leave the Presbyterian Church USA and join another Presbyterian denomination that many consider more conservative.

The Rev. Rusty Douglas is pastor of First Presbyterian Church of Greenwood. He tells the Greenwood Commonwealth that some in the congregation have expressed concerns about the "leftward drift" of the Presbyterian Church USA, which allows same-sex marriage.

The Greenwood congregation could consider joining ECO, a Covenant Order of Evangelical Presbyterians, which holds that marriage is between a man and a woman.

Douglas says the congregation ruled out joining the Presbyterian Church of America because it does not have women serving as elders, deacons or ministers. He says the Greenwood congregation has many women in those roles.
