WESTERLY, R.I. (AP) _ A fast-moving fire burned through a two-story home early Wednesday, killing four people, two of them children, police said.
Neighbors said the victims were sisters, aged 9 and 10, an adult stepbrother and the stepbrother’s girlfriend. A man in a wheelchair, whom neighbors said was the girls’ father, was rescued by neighbors and hospitalized in fair condition.
Three other people escaped uninjured.
Police said the fire broke out about 6 a.m.
``I saw smoke coming out of the downstairs windows,″ said neighbor Ellen Gomez. ``We were telling them to jump. It was within minutes that the yelling stopped.″
Police identified the sisters as Crystal and Carol Ingram, and the stepbrother as 23-year-old Neil Rosenberg. The name of the girlfriend was not immediately released.
The cause and origin of the blaze were under investigation.
