Vermont 80, Boston U. 70

BURLINGTON, Vt. (AP) _ Sharon Bay scored 26 points and Sheri Turnbull 24 as 15th-ranked Vermont ran its NCAA consecutive regular season victories record to 51 with an 80-70 victory over Boston University on Saturday.

The Catamounts (24-0 overall and 13-0 in the North Atlantic Conference) also tied Tennessee for the longest current homecourt winning streak, 32.

Bay scored six straight points to give Vermont a 20-13 lead, and the score was 38-31 at halftime. The margin reached 46-33 in the opening minutes of the second half, and that grew to 20 before the Terriers’ late rally cut it to 78-70 with 34 seconds left.

Bay also had 11 rebounds and four blocked shots and Turnbull 16 rebounds. Jen Niebling added 15 points.

Boston U. (9-15, 3-10) was led by Andrea Higgins and Annemarie Olson with 15 points each. Julie Schmidt had 14 and Jill Sosnak 12 with nine rebounds.

Vermont will try to complete its second straight unbeaten regular season at Hartford next Saturday.
