Vacant building featuring lewd mural of mayor demolished

November 19, 2018

NORTH PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — A dilapidated building that featured an unflattering public mural of a Rhode Island mayor wearing a crown and sitting on a toilet has been torn down.

The Providence Journal reports a demolition crew tore down a vacant building owned by Dr. Anthony Farina Monday morning. Farina commissioned the mural of North Providence Mayor Charles Lombardi in July after the mayor said the building was a “health hazard” and needed to be demolished.

The Rhode Island State Building Board and Standards Commission denied Farina’s appeal of the demolition notice. According to Lombardi, Farina was also denied a town tax incentive for the building.

Lombardi maintains the mural didn’t offend him. He jokes that he would’ve sat for a photo shoot if Farina had called.
