Get to Know: Nate Christensen
Name: Nate Christensen
Where are you from? Born in Texas, graduated high school in Auburn, attended Western Washington University.
Live in: Mount Vernon
Occupation: School teacher at an alternative school in Stanwood.
What do you like about living in the Valley? “I like that there’s less traffic than there was down south. I like the downtown area here, the downtown business owners and the events that the city puts on. I like the access to all the outdoor activities.”
What did you want to be when you grow up? “I wanted to be Steve Sax of the L.A. Dodgers. Turns out, there was other things I was better at than baseball.”
Do you have a New Year’s resolution? “I had a pretty good 2018, so I figured I’d just keep that going into 2019 and not worry about anything else.”
What would be your spirit animal? “A coyote. They’re kind of environmental chameleons. They seem to be able to adapt in the wild and they can also navigate their way around more urban areas, but they also like to stay out of sight of other people for the most part. Sometimes, that’s me.”
Hobbies: “I write and play music. I read a lot of comics. But my No. 1 hobby is probably board games. I have about 300 of them.”
What’s your favorite board game? “Right now, ‘Five tribes,’ and ‘Concordia.’”
Who do you admire? “There’s a lot of people that I admire. In general, I admire people that stand on their principles. Even if I don’t necessarily agree with them.”
The world would be a better place if: “People would just give each other more hugs.”
