Fitch touring to start Mississippi attorney general campaign

JACKSON, Miss. (AP) — The second-term state treasurer in Mississippi is traveling the state next week to announce as a candidate for attorney general.

Republican Lynn Fitch has appearances set for Monday in Jackson and Meridian, Tuesday in Gulfport and Hattiesburg and Wednesday in Tupelo, Holly Springs and Hernando.

Fitch grew up in Holly Springs and lives in Ridgeland. She is a former assistant attorney general and former director of the state Personnel Board.

The current attorney general, Democrat Jim Hood, is not seeking a fifth term. Instead, he’s running for governor.

Fourth-term Republican state Rep. Mark Baker of Brandon has filed qualifying papers to run for attorney general. No Democrat has announced for the office.

Candidates’ qualifying deadline is March 1. Party primaries are in August, and the general election is in November.
