Surprise man is accused in death of girlfriend’s stepdad

    August 21, 2018

SURPRISE, Ariz. (AP) — Authorities say a Surprise man now is facing a second-degree murder charge after he allegedly ran over his girlfriend’s stepfather with his car following an argument.

Surprise police say 19-year-old Chet Becker Jr. originally was booked into jail Aug. 13 on suspicion of felony aggravated assault and leaving the scene of a collision involving serious bodily injury.

They say Samuel Zeldin of El Mirage had been hospitalized in critical condition in a medically-induced coma and died from his injuries Monday.

Court records show the two men had argued over how Becker was treating Zeldin’s stepdaughter.

When Zeldin walked in front of Becker’s car, authorities say Becker accelerated and struck the victim.

Police say Becker told investigators that he intentionally struck Zeldin because he was mad at him.
