Mavis M. Hockensmith, 102, of Bourbonnais, and formerly of Union City, Ind., passed away Friday (Sept. 14, 2018) at Presence Our Lady of Victory Nursing Home in Bourbonnais.
She was born Jan. 14, 1916, in Darke County, Ohio, the daughter of E. Ray and Cora Bailey Miller.
Mavis married Duane L. Hockensmith June 27, 1936. He preceded her in death in August 2001.
She was a homemaker. She enjoyed gardening and sewing. She was a member of College Church of the Nazarene.
Surviving are one daughter and son-in-law, Janice Hockensmith and George Laun, of Bourbonnais; and one sister, Carol Fox, of Edinburgh, Ind. She also is survived by Jane Hockensmith Reich and Jeff Reich, of Yellow Springs, Ohio.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; and two sisters, Rosella Collins and Catherine Horne. She also was preceded in death by Greg Hockensmith.
Visitation will be from 5 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 20, until the 7 p.m. funeral service at Clancy-Gernon Funeral Home in Bourbonnais. Dr. Mark Quanstrom will officiate the service. Interment will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 22, at Lisbon Cemetery in Union City, Ind.
