TEEN SHOT-MICHIGAN

PONTIAC, Mich. — A 20-year-old suburban Detroit man has been charged with involuntary manslaughter after authorities say his 14-year-old cousin died after being shot in the chest by a handgun that was reportedly being kept under a mattress. The Oakland County sheriff’s office says Damari E. Mahone of Pontiac was arraigned Thursday and bond was denied. He also faces drug and weapons charges. SENT: 130 words.

— UPPER PENINSULA FLOODING: Heavy rains have caused more flooding in parts of Michigan’s Upper Peninsula that were still working to recover from last month’s severe flooding.

— GREAT LAKES-FIRE RETARDANTS: A U.S.-Canadian agency is suggesting ways the two nations can help prevent flame-retardant chemicals from polluting the Great Lakes.

— FIRE RISK-MICHIGAN: The West Virginia Division of Forestry has sent a crew of 20 to Michigan to help reduce the risk of wildfires.
