Woman ID’d Whose Body Was Found In Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area
The body of a woman was found Thursday afternoon near the riverbank in the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area, the Pike County coroner said.
Sonya Datesman, 52, of East Stroudsburg, had been reported missing Sunday by family members, setting off a search by Monroe County authorities, including the Delaware Water Gap Fire Department. She was last seen Sunday at the recreation area. Her vehicle was reportedly found in the area.
Datesman’s body was recovered about 2 p.m. Thursday, according to Pike County Coroner Chris Brighton. He said the coroner’s office and the National Park Service were involved in the recovery, which happened in Dingman Township, near Route 209, about 2 miles south of Milford.
Brighton said officials are still investigating Datesman’s disappearance, and an autopsy is pending. Earlier, he could not say if the woman’s death appears suspicious.
“That part of the investigation is ongoing,” he said.
