It was a tough day for local football teams

December 3, 2018

Marshall quarterback Isaiah Green drops his head and exits the field after a failed fourth down against Virginia Tech on Saturday at Lane Stadium in Blacksburg, Va.

It was a dreary Saturday for the Marshall University and Spring Valley High School football teams. Virginia Tech won its game against Marshall, 41-20, at foggy Lane Stadium in Blacksburg, Virginia, to reach six victories and become bowl eligible for the 26th consecutive season. Marshall ended the regular season with an 8-4 record and will also be playing in a bowl game.

Martinsburg beat Spring Valley, 31-7, for the Class AAA state title in rainy Wheeling Island Stadium. It was the third straight year the Bulldogs (14-0) downed the Timberwolves (13-1) in the title game.
