Funeral set for officer killed in off-duty motorcycle crash
ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) — Funeral services are set for an Albany police officer killed in an off-duty motorcycle accident on the Fourth of July.
Albany Police Department officials say 25-year-old Dean Johnson was riding in the rural town of Knox on Wednesday afternoon when he lost control on a turn and veered into oncoming traffic. Authorities say he struck another vehicle and was thrown from the motorcycle.
Johnson joined the department last October and graduated from the Albany Police Academy in May. Previously he had worked as a legislative aide for state Sen. James Tedisco of Schenectady County.
Johnson was a graduate of Clarkstown High School North in Rockland County and the University at Albany.
His funeral will be held Tuesday morning at the Historic Church of St. Mary in Albany.
