September 18, 2018

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) — Mississippi police say a woman led officers on a car chase that ended in Tennessee when she fled on foot and left behind her 1-year-old baby.

News outlets report 22-year-old Jovitha Montgomery has been arrested on charges including reckless endangerment and child abuse. Southhaven police say they attempted to pull over a Jeep for reckless driving Friday night, but it refused to stop.

Police say they chased it into Memphis, Tennessee, where Montgomery stopped the car and fled on foot with two other people. They say Montgomery was caught by a police K-9 unit. The other two people escaped.

Police found a toddler left in the back seat of the Jeep who has since been identified as Montgomery’s child.

It’s unclear if Montgomery has a lawyer to contact for comment.
