HIGH SCHOOL ROUNDUP Greenwich swimmers improve to 2-0
The Greenwich High School boys swimming team raised its record to 2-0, defeating visiting Wilton, 103-65, in an FCIAC meet held on Wednesday.
The 200-yard medley relay saw Charlie Clark, Stephan Todorovic, John Caruso and Mark Merson post a winning time of 1:43 for GHS.
In the 200 yard freestyle, Ryan Jee won for the Cardinals in 1:51.57. Tommy Lewis touched the wall first for Greenwich in the 200 individual medley (2:02.90), while Todorovic and Clark finished in a tie in an exciting 50 freestyle finish (22.81).
Michael McNulty was the diving winner (2367.20) and Andres Ruh won the 100 butterfly for the Cardinals (54.04). Clark took top honors in the 100 freestyle (50.64) and teammate James Pascale won th 500 freestyle in 4:59.78.
Greenwich won the 200 freestyle relay in 1:35.09
and Lewis topped the competition in the 100 backstroke in 54.83. Todorovic also won th 100 breaststroke 1:02.29.
Brunswick School upended topped Iona Prep, 58-26, Tuesday, in New Rochelle, N.Y., moving its record to 6-1.
The teams combined for 10 pins in the 15 matches, as the Bruins collected six pinfall victories.
In the 195-pound match,Tim Saunders of Brunswick pinned Nicholas Calbo in 2:58. At 99, Kyle Pagnani of the Bruins pinned Brenden Barrett in 40 seconds. The 106-pound match saw William MacGillivray of Brunswick pin Emmett McLaughlin in 1:18. Jackson Wolfram (113) scored a major decision for Brunswick over Nick Rizzo (8-0).
Brunswick’s Jojo McCurdy (126) won by pinfall against Lukas Lynch (29 seconds). 145: Nick Bell (145) posted pinfall win for Brunswick in 3:27 and Brunswick’s Dylan Reynolds (170) pinned David McLaughlin’s shoulders to the mat in 1:27.
SACRED HEART SWIMMING
Placing first in all but one event, Sacred Heart Greenwich improved its record to 5-1, swimming past Convent of the Sacred Heart 91st Street, 51-40, in a meet held on Tuesday.
The Tigers started the meet with their 200-yard medley relay team of Emma O’Connor, Erin Quigley, Katelin Ulmer and Catherine Hamilton winning the event in 1:55.24.
O’Connor touched the wall first for Sacred Heart Greenwich in the 200 freestyle (2:08.63), followed by teammate Alessandra Serbaroli (2:13.80).
Alexandra Marshall had a first-place finish for the Tigers in the 200 individual medley (2:29.73), while Ulmer took second in 2:46.32.
In the 50 freestyle, Grace Lillis posted a winning time of 27.23 seconds. Laura Moore of Sacred Heart was the runner-up in the 50 freestyle (27.85).
Hamilton was 100 butterfly winner (1:00.63), while teammate Isabella Lippolis finished first in the 100 freestyle (1:02.45). Quigley posted a second-place finish (6:08.87).
In the 200 freestyle relay, Ulmer, O’Connor, Hamilton and Moore registered a winning time of 1:44.92. Lillis finished first in the 100 backstroke (1:08.10) and Marshall was second (1:11.16).
The 100 breaststroke winner was Quigley (1:14.77) and Elisa Taylor of Sacred Heart took second (1:17.63).
The meet concluded with Ulmer, O’Connor, Lillis and Hamilton winning the 400 freestyle relay in 3:38.82.
Sacred Heart is in action again when its hosts Kennedy Catholic School on Jan. 8.
