Rangers 6, Red Sox 5, 10 innings

April 17, 1995

FORT MYERS, Fla. (AP) _ Rick Schu’s 10th-inning single scored former replacement player Bruce Dostal and gave the Texas Rangers a 6-5 victory over the Boston Red Sox on Sunday night.

Mike Pagliarulo was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning. Dostal took first on a fielder’s choice, moved to third on Eric Fox’s single and scored when Schu singled to left.

Texas starter Bob Tewksbury allowed four hits in three innings. Boston’s Erik Hanson pitched two innings, allowing three first-inning runs.

Jose Canseco went 0-for-4 with one strikeout _ his fifth of the spring. He is hitless in 13 at-bats since homering in the first game.

Shawn Hare, filling in because Juan Gonzalez was scratched from the lineup with back spasms, had two hits, two runs and two RBIs for Texas.

A full house of 7,150 _ the largest crowd in the three-year history of City of Palms Park _ saw the game, the first sellout in either spring session this year. The paid attendance of 4,148 was boosted by a giveaway the Red Sox held for their season ticket holders.

Boston trailed 5-3 with one on and two out in the eighth when Darren Oliver walked three consecutive batters to make it 5-4. With Jose Aberro pitching, pinch-hitter Steve Rodriguez hit a high chopper to third base and beat the throw to first to tie it.

Aberro struck out pinch-hitter Terry Shumpert with Canseco on deck to end the inning.
