Scottsbluff man charged after statements recorded during jailhouse call
SCOTTSBLUFF — A jailhouse phone call has led to charges against a Scottsbluff man.
John Dunn, alias John Dunn-Gordon, 30, of Scottsbluff, has been charged with possession of a controlled substance, a Class IV felony; and possession of a deadly weapon by a prohibited person, a Class III felony.
According to an arrest affidavit, police had arrested Dunn on March 19 on a charge of driving under suspension. While detained at the Scotts Bluff County jail, Dunn allegedly placed a phone call to a woman on March 20. In the call, Dunn allegedly told the woman that he would not let a passenger, Sharla Ramirez, 28, who had been arrested and subsequently charged with possession of a controlled substance and tampering with evidence after a pipe had been located during a strip search at the jail, that he had made the woman “hold” his items and he was “not gonna let her go down for my (expletive).” In the phone conversation, he allegedly said he had threatened the woman, telling her he would beat her up if she did not carry his pipe.
Dunn was arraigned Monday on charges in Scotts Bluff County Court.
Charges against Ramirez of possession of a controlled substance and tampering with physical evidence, both Class IV felonies; carrying a concealed weapon, a Class I misdemeanor, and possession of drug paraphernalia, are pending trial. She is scheduled for a preliminary hearing in the case in Scotts Bluff County on Tuesday.
