Avs Lose Svatos to Shoulder Injury
DENVER (AP) _ Colorado Avalanche rookie Marek Svatos will miss the rest of the season because of a shoulder injury. Svatos, who leads the team with 32 goals, was injured during last weekend’s 5-3 loss at Dallas. The Avalanche announced Thursday that he will need several months to recover.
``Marek sustained a fracture in his right shoulder, which was discovered during an MRI. The subsequent result is that he will require surgery,″ trainer Matt Sokolowski said. ``It’s important to note that this injury is to the right shoulder while both of his previous shoulder injuries were to his left shoulder.″
The Avalanche has already lost Steve Konowalchuk (wrist) and Ossi Vaananen (leg) to season-ending injuries.
Svatos currently ranks second among NHL rookies in goals and third in points (50).
His nine game-winning goals led the NHL and tied the league record for rookies.
