13 arrested at Black Lives Matter protest in Rochester, NY
ROCHESTER, N.Y. (AP) — Authorities in Rochester say more than a dozen Black Lives Matter protesters have been arrested after they sat down in the middle of a downtown street.
The Rochester Democrat and Chronicle reports that the protest started at 4 p.m. Saturday at a city park.
By about 6 p.m. the marchers had shut down a major intersection. A group of protesters marched to another street and sat down in the roadway.
The police warned the protesters to clear the road as the protesters chanted “It is our right to fight for our freedom.” The police then moved in and began to make arrests.
The Rochester Police Department says on its Twitter account that at least 13 people have been arrested without incident.
