Leona Evans, 81, Rio

Leona M. Evans, 81, of Rio, passed away peacefully Friday, May 24, 2019, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Madison surrounded by her family.

She was born Dec. 6, 1938, in Arena, the daughter of Roy and Lilly Davenport. She was united in marriage to Walter Evans Aug. 25, 1956. She was employed at Racine Glove Factory/Jaxco for 53 years. Leona was an avid Wisconsin sports fan. She also enjoyed socializing with her family and friends, fishing, camping, and snowmobiling.

Survivors include her husband, Walter of Rio; sons, Richard (JoAnn) Evans of Cambria and Wally (Mitzi) Evans of Oxford; grandchildren, April Evans, Jim (Jennifer) Evans, Michael Evans, and Matthew Evans; great-grandchildren, Tyler, Jordon, and Lexi Schmelzer, Michaela, Austin, and Maddie Evans, and Sawyer, Ashton, and Brady Evans; siblings, Jim (Lorraine) Davenport, Mary Grotze, Roxanne (Wayne) Rohn, Ron (Nancy) Davenport and Carol (Dave) Kampen; and many other family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers Roy and Art Davenport.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, May 29, at the Otsego Town Hall, W3199 Hwy 16, Columbus, with the Rev. Mark Brandel officiating. Interment will follow at Ohio Cemetery in Rio. A reception will follow the burial at the town hall. Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. until the time of services Wednesday. Online condolences may be made at grassefs.com.
