Correctional officer sentenced for inmate beating
CHICAGO (AP) — A former Cook County correctional officer convicted of misconduct for ordering the beating of an inmate has been sentenced to two years of probation.
Pamela Bruce was sentenced Tuesday by Judge James Linn. Bruce made no comment following the hearing. However, defense attorney Frank Edwards called his client’s sentence “fair.”
The 31-year-old Bruce and her partner, Delphia Sawyer, were accused of letting two larger inmates into the cell of a man who shouted insults at them. The men beat the victim in the face and on the head. The two officers hit the inmate with their radios and kicked him.
Prosecutors said the officers later lied about how the inmate got his injuries in February 2013.
Sawyer has pleaded guilty to one count of official misconduct and is awaiting sentencing.
