Lecture series for small business owner kicks off

A new free lecture series targeted to small business owners will kick off its first event Thursday.

The new Business Owners Mad Skills lecture series, also known as #bomsUtah, will be from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday at Lulu’s Crafty Corner, 120 W. Center St. in downtown Provo. John C. Brooke, chief technology officer of True Wealth and Taxes Mastered, will present “The New Tax Law — What Does it Mean for Business Owners?”

The lecture series will continue Nov. 1, Nov. 15 and Dec. 6. The Nov. 1 luncheon meeting will feature Spencer Taggart and Guy Richey Gibbons, who will present on digital marketing. Genevieve Gribble will present “What If Something Goes Awry with the Business Owner?” during the Nov. 15 meeting. Glen Wagstaff will discuss how business owners can leave a legacy during the Dec. 6 meeting.

Lunch is provided at these events, and seating is limited, so participants should register at EventBrite by searching for “tax law” in Pleasant Grove.

Restaurant picks SynergySuite for software solution

Tropical Smoothie Cafe, the fast-casual restaurant concept that serves blended-to-order smoothies, wraps, sandwiches and flatbreads, has selected SynergySuite in Lehi as its system-wide back-of-house solution.

With more than 700 locations, Tropical Smoothie Cafe is implementing the full SynergySuite platform as an end-to-end restaurant management solution, as a replacement to the disparate management solutions currently being used at the cafes.

“It’s critical for us to bring these processes together in one place as we continue adding locations,” said Marina O’Rourke, Tropical Smoothie Cafe vice president of information technology. “The SynergySuite solution will assist us with our focus on franchisee profitability, including cafe overhead and operational efficiencies.”

South Jordan’s Lucidchart adds new executives

“Cara brings extensive legal and corporate governance expertise to Lucidchart,” said Karl Sun, co-founder and CEO of Lucidchart. “She is a proven executive with a remarkable depth and breadth of leadership and international experience who will be instrumental in supporting our growing global business.”

Smith will lead Lucidchart’s finance function. Smith previously served as chief financial officer at InsideSales.com, leading all finance functions there.
